September is National Library Card Sign Up Month and while it is free to get a library card, the Jefferson Public Library is doing an incentive to draw even more people in.

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says any individual that is three and older can have a library card and those individuals that sign up this month will have their names in a drawing in both the adult and youth services departments. She acknowledges the prizes are selecting a new book that is yours, as well as a copy becoming part of the library’s circulation.

“So not only is this a nice, personal touch welcoming in new patrons, but it’s also expanding our collection, and showing that we’re interested in providing a bunch of diverse stories at the library.”

Library Director Jane Millard points out that the library has over 34,000 items that can be checked out at. She invites everyone who does not have a library card to check them out and sign up for one.

“So if you’ve just moved to Jefferson or Greene County, or if you haven’t used the library in a long time, and you would like to have access to all of these new things, or for some reason that you just haven’t made it into the library to get a card, stop in. It’s free. Look around, see what all the library has to offer and I think there’s a good chance you’ll be surprised.”

Millard adds a library card can be used anywhere within the library to either access all of the services or to check things out and even access some digital programs from anywhere.
