The Greene County School Board recently agreed how to spend additional one-time funds that were received through newly passed legislation.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says House File 2612 was signed by Governor Kim Reynolds and allowed $14 million to be distributed to all public schools and to be used on salaries for educational support staff. He points out that the Greene County School District received a little over $34,000 and there was a discussion with the School Board about how to allocate that money. Abbotts explains the two choices were to either pay it as a lump sum or an increase to hourly wages.

“After reaching out (and) having those conversations with some other colleagues, and then kind of wrestling that around with the School Board, we kind of came to an arrival there to add about $0.30 per hour to each of those educational support personnel hourly salary.”

Abbotts adds that those employees will maintain their wages after the increase from this legislation, but will then examine those salaries when considering what kinds of increases to do for the following school year.
