The Perry City Council met in regular session on Monday.

During a special open forum, Marketing and Engagement Coordinator Chris Cohea read the results from a poll the City of Perry put out about regulating fireworks. He described that there were 144 respondents to the survey, with 62 individuals wanting the city to keep the current regulations, and 86 individuals wanting to see the City of Perry regulate them in a different way. Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh said the results will be taken under consideration before making a final decision. Cavanaugh also read from a proclamation for Perry’s Academic, Cultural, & Enrichment Services Lights On Afterschool Program. PACES Director Mary Hillman thanked the Cavanaugh for doing so.

Items on the agenda that were approved at Monday’s meeting include two grants for the CDBG Upper Story Housing Development for an amount of $2,575 and $7,543, a pay application for the Automated Weather Observing System project in the amount of $93,557.90 to Kimrey Electric, a pay application for Runway 14/32 Relocation phase two for $149,503.04 and phase three for $193,274.64 both to Manatt’s Incorporated, and a resolution to support a referendum to increase the board membership of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors from three to five members.

Additional items that were approved at the meeting pertained to a resolution for tax abatement applications for residential construction completed in 2024 for Perry, a resolution to authorize the sale of a 2007 Schulte Snowblower and a 1980 Chevrolet Grundman Step Van, then authorizing the donation of two Runway End Indicator Lights valued at $1,800 that are no longer needed for the Perry Municipal Airport, and a resolution for a program fee agreement between the Rural Housing Readiness Assessment Program and Iowa State University Extension Community Economic Development in the amount of $5,000 that will be completed within six months.
