AC/GC Marching Band at their competition in Creston last year

The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School Marching Band season is off and running this school year.

Band Director Kyra Babcock says that the 35 students that make up the band sometimes need a little encouragement to get excited, but that once they are, they’re raring to go and show what they are made of. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the coaching and leadership for the ensemble is what helps make everything tick.

“We have our color guard coach, Jess Fridley; we have assistant coach, she also works with baton, that’s Hailey Johnston; and myself as the lead director. We also have two drum majors working really hard to make everything happen, and that is Caydence Boals is the drum major for the field show, and Shyann Young is the drum major for the parade.”

Babcock mentions that with more home football games on the schedule, especially this Friday’s Homecoming game and parade, along with competitions coming up, they would love to see the community support during their performances.

“I would encourage people to come out and cheer for us. When you see us at a home football game, cheer for us. We need and want your support, and encouragement, and the best way to do that is by being present, and showing us by clapping, yelling, and that’s the easiest way to show us what you want to do.”

The two competitions for the marching band are the Creston Balloon Days Parade on Saturday and the Clarinda Band Jamboree on October 6th.
