The Perry Middle School administration reacted swiftly following a conversation relating to a non-credible threat of a school shooting from this past Thursday.
According to a press release, Middle School Principal Ned Menke says two students were allegedly overheard devising a plan to cancel school with a suggestion of a shooting to do it this past Thursday. The release states that other students were immediately frightened, but that school staff was unaware of the potential threat until the start of school on Monday, when it was brought to their attention.
Perry Middle School administration connected with the Perry Police Department to outline appropriate consequences. After an investigation, the threat was determined to be not credible to the school. Parents of the students who made the comments were notified and brought into the school.
Further analysis by the Perry Police Department’s Chief Eric Vaughn concluded that two middle school students, a male and female, are being referred to Perry’s Juvenile Court on charges of Threats of Terrorism, a Class D Felony.
