Paton-Churdan sophomore Trevon Keely has made Greene County High School football history the past two games. Research dating back to the first season the Rams played as Greene County in 2012, Keely is the only player to return kickoffs for touchdowns in two consecutive games. Both were on kicks to start the second half, the first in week two at Perry for 89 yards, and the second in week three in Atlantic for 85 yards.
2020 Greene County graduate Carter Morton is the only other in that time period to have two kickoff returns for TDs in the same season. He did that as a senior in 2019, one in week four vs. Gilbert for 88 yards and the other in the first round of the playoffs vs. Des Moines Christian, good for 96 yards. Morton, an All-State football players in high school, is now a fifth year track & field standout at the U. of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Morton and Keely have high jumping in common as well. Morton placed third at the 209 State meet and that season cleared 6′ 8″ as a junior for the Rams, then lost his senior campaign to the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s gone as high as 6′ 11″ at UNI. As a P-C freshman last May, Keely placed second at State in Class 1A while high jumping 6′ 5″.
