Playing for the third time in six days the Greene County varsity volleyball team went two in two in matches and 4-5 in sets in Eldora on Saturday at the South Hardin Tournament. A 19-21, 11-21 loss to Gladbrook-Reinbeck started the day, followed by a loss to host So. Hardin 12-21, 8-21. A three set win vs. Oelwein came next by scores of 16-21, 21-17, and 15-10 before the day wrapped up with a win in two sets against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 21-18, 21-19. So. Hardin is ranked fourth in Class 2A and G-R is number 11 in 1A. Overall, the Rams are 6-7 in matches.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp reports senior Emma Shipley led the team in kills with 23 for the day, followed by 10 from senior Emma Shhipley, nine for senior Ella Shipley, eight from senior Payton Shipley, and six for junior Lila Osterson. Sophomore Bellah Johnson was the leader in digs with 30, followed  by 13 for Ewalt, 10 from junior Addison Gannon, nine by senior Hailey Carman, and seven from senior Violet Reedy.

The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio her team served successfully 90% of the time on Saturday. “We were off a few steps for the first two matches. Serve receiver passing and serving tends to set the tone for us, and we fell short of our goals early on, but we rallied and found a way to battle back for the last two tough matches. We ended with some intense folleys and finished strong, in both offense and defense.

The Rams finally get to play at home on Sept. 17 when they host non-conference opponents Panorama and South Central Calhoun. Greene County has played five playing dates including three tournaments, all on the road.
