The one and only home cross-country meet for the Greene County Rams is tomorrow at Jefferson Community Golf Course. The golf course, Spring Lake State Park, and the middle school grounds have all been used over the years as meet sites.

Dave Wright, Greene County School District Activities Director, talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about why it’s at the golf course this year. “Well, basically, we were planning on running at the middle school campus, but with the tree removal out there (between Linduska Field and Allensworth Field) and dragging trees on part of our course, the grounds were rough and we thought it was unsafe, honestly, for us to be running through there, so that’s why we moved it back to the golf course for this year.”

Wright said school officials would reevaluate as to where the meet will be held moving forward.

Action on Thursday starts with middle school girls running at 4:30 p.m., then middle school boys, high school girls, and finally, high school boys. Middle School races are two miles in length while the high school runners cover five kilometers, or 3.1 miles.

Handicap parking will be in the golf course parking lot. Others should park at the middle school lots or the Church of Christ lot and walk to the golf course.
