Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene County volleyball team began Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play on Monday night at the Perry High School gym on Dan Marburger Court. The Rams won in three sets to start the conference season at 1-0. Scores were 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 and although this was the eighth match of the season for the Rams it was the first time playing to 25 points, and against a single opponent. The Rams are now 3-5 in matches.
Twin sisters Emaa and Ella Shipley had good nights at the net with the seniors collecting nine and eight kills respectively. Senior Payton Kokenge had six kills with three from sophomore Lila Osterson, two from senior Emma Ewalt, and two for seniors Violet Reedy. Emma Shipley led the team in blocks with four, followed by Ella Shipley with two, and one block for Osterson. Reedy had 30 setting assists while sophomore Bellah Johnson had five digs.. Senior Haley Carman, Ewalt, and junior Addison Gannon had four digs apiece.
Greene County plays another conference match this Thursday vs. HOIAC newcomer Grand View Christian of Des Moines. The match has been moved to Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny as the new GVC facility isn’t ready for competition.
