The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustang football team traveled to Newton yesterday but fell to the Cardinals 28-7. The action took place at H.A  Lynn Stadium and during the first quarter, the Mustang defensive was dominate keeping the Cardinals from crossing midfield before the second quarter. Newton’s quarterback Caden Klein would guide the Cardinals to a touchdown with just over five minutes to go in the second quarter, and would take it in on his own for the two put conversion giving Newton the lead 8-0.  The Cardinals would score again with only seventeen seconds to go in the second putting the score at 15-0 going into the half.

Tate Perrin would guide the Mustangs to a touchdown coming back in the third quarter, but was banged up on a rushing attempted bringing in Chase Engel to finish the battle for the Mustangs. Engel would make some key passes to Wyatt Valent, Chase Heitland and Hudson Heidgerken to keep the Mustangs moving downfield but would throw for two interceptions keeping the Mustangs from the redzone. The Cardinals would score twice after these interceptions in the third and fourth quarter to bring the final score to 28-7

The Mustangs now sit at 0-2 in the season and prepare to travel to Fort Dodge next Friday to take on the 1-1 Dodgers. Coverage will be on the KDLS2 live stream with the Luellen Richarson Insurance pregame show at 6pm.
