Week 2 of the high school football season kicks off tonight with Perry hosting Greene County. The Bluejays are 1-0 thanks to a 35-21 victory over Des Moines Hoover. Greene County fell in their first game to Carroll 34-21. The two rivals play for the Cowbell tonight in what is one of the oldest feuds in the state. The rivalry has been relatively one sided with Greene County two-thirds of the matchups including the last 6. Perry will also be celebrating the military tonight for Military Appreciation Night. Dewey Field will be a popular place for tonight’s Perry versus Greene County clash.
Perry was led by senior QB Geren Kenney who rushed the ball 20 times last week. Perry head coach, Josh Vannornam, doesn’t plan for that trend to continue. “Geren is kind of a dog out there and I’m impressed with him. He doesn’t complain. He just works and that’s the kind of mindset that we need to have, but yes I would like to give him a little bit less touches that way he can perform better on both sides of the ball and we have some plans and wrinkles in for that.” Kenney accounted for 3 of the 5 Perry scores on offense, had a team high 6 tackles, and picked off a pass.
Kickoff is set for 7P tonight and the Perry Hy-Vee Pregame will start at 6P on 94.3, 99.7, and AM 1310 KDLS. The broadcast will also stream at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
