The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football team began the season with a win, thanks in large part to their defense.
The Tigers opened the season in Adel on Friday, where they defeated the Newton Cardinals 13-8, as Head Coach Doug Winkowitsch picks up his first win with ADM. Newton’s quarterback Caden Klein rushed for 121 yards, but threw three interceptions, including two in the final six minutes of play. Winkowitsch was impressed in how the defense stayed poised in some key moments.
“Really proud of those guys to keep hanging in there and even though if they had a big play, we we’re able to get the stop.”
Winkowitsch recognizes that the game of football requires the “bend, don’t break” mentality of giving up yardage on big plays, but buckling down when it matters most, which is how the Tigers secured their first win. Winkowitsch does want to be better disciplined with penalties as ADM had over seven in the game.
The Tigers will be back in Adel on Friday, as Raccoon River Conference rival Winterset comes into town. The game will kick off at 7pm, and Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast starting at 6pm on K107.9 KKRF.
