Two hunting seasons are now open in Iowa.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Aaron Arthur says rabbit season is August 31st through February 28th and squirrel season is August 31st through January 31st. He reminds everyone who is 16 and older to have a valid hunting license to participate in these seasons. Arthur recommends anyone who hunts to get the free app for their smartphone called, “Go Outdoors IA.”
“On that app, you can carry your licenses, other than of course your deer tags and stuff that you are required to have on you, but that’s a legal way to carry your licenses. Plus, it has all of the hunting regulation books, it has the sunrise/sunsets (for times to hunt), it has the public hunting atlas on it. So it’s a very useful tool as a hunter.”
A small game resident hunter license is $41, which can also be obtained through the Greene County Recorder’s Office during normal business hours of 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday at the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson.
