A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation for a May incident.
According to court documents, 36-year-old Jeremy Andrews pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree fraudulent practices. He had a two year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. The probation sentence was to run consecutively with another case where he was sentenced to serve 20 days in the Greene County Jail after being convicted of an aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred.
The fraudulent practices charge stemmed from an incident on May 5th. Court documents show that Andrews won a jackpot of $1,263 from a slot machine at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. He left the machine and spoke to another person who attempted to claim the winnings. Surveillance video showed Andrews won the jackpot and when his information was run through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program, Andrews owed over $15,000 in set offs.
Andrews was additionally ordered to pay over $800 in court appointed attorney fees, court costs and probation fees. As per the plea agreement, the Class D Felony for gambling-avoid setoff was dismissed.
