Tomorrow is day four of the Guthrie County Fair.

The 4-H Food Stand will open at 6am and continue serving food until 5pm, with the open class swine check in taking place from 7-8am and the fair 5k run taking place at 8am after the 7:30am check in. Also at 8am will be the working dogs competition over in the East Arena, and the antique tractor display will be going on from 8am to 5pm on the south side of the fairgrounds.

The swine jackpot open class show begins at 9am, to be followed by the fair parade at 10am. Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Blum tells Raccoon Valley Radio the difference between the normal livestock shows and the open class shows.

“Regular shows are our 4-H and FFA show, and so any Guthrie County 4-H or FFA members can come show. And then following those shows are the open class shows, and any age can come in and present their animals. So any youngster that wants to come show, they bring their animal to the Guthrie County Fair, and once our 4-H/FFA show is over, we will begin our open show.”

From noon to 4pm there will be face painting and a balloon artist in the Event Center, with the American Legion Bingo Stand opening at the same time and continuing until the fair closes for the night. Free carnival rides also start at noon and go to 10pm, with a dance showcase from Adair Dance Academy at noon at the Little Amphitheater, and the 4H and FFA poultry show begins at 12:30pm.

Harvesting beans, plowing and other antique farm demonstrations begin at 1pm, and will be followed by corn picking, shelling and grinding demonstrations. Garden judging takes place in the 4-H/FFA Education Center from 1-3pm, with Bacon Buddies taking place at the same time in the show ring. The kid’s pedal pull starts at 1:30pm at the Little Amphitheater, and the 4-H and FFA rabbit show will start at 4pm in the show ring.

Wayne Francis will be putting on a ventriloquist show at 4pm and 6pm in the Little Amphitheater, with the 4-H and FFA pet show at the show ring at 6:30pm, and at 7pm, the figure eight races will begin as the free event at the Grandstands.
