Perry football begins week 1 of the season at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines.  The Bluejays will take on Des Moines Hoover.  Mediacom Stadium was constructed just last year.  It started hosting high school football games last October.  Drake University shares the property with the Des Moines Public Schools.  Mediacom Stadium has already hosted major events including the 2023 MVC Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals and final, and the semifinal and final rounds of the Iowa Boys State Soccer Tournament.  Tomorrow night it will kickoff the high school football season.  Perry senior Zach Shelley is looking forward to the venue.  “I think it’s pretty cool. I’ve seen you know some pictures and videos of it you know, great stadium. It’ll be nice going out there and beating Hoover hopefully.”  Geren Kenney is also excited for the atmosphere.  “I’m pretty excited.  I love playing at turf and you know it’ll be a good matchup between us and Hoover.  They’re good ball club.  All the eyes and say they’re looking at us in that game.”  Kenney is referencing being the only game taking place on Thursday in high school football.
