The Guthrie County Fair begins today, and many are excited to start enjoying the festivities.
Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Blum mentions that there isn’t much going on, with 4-H and FFA members able to check in static exhibits from 4-7pm, and the 4-H and FFA dog show at 5pm, with open class static entries to be set up in the Art Hall beginning at 7:30pm.
Blum shares that the second day of the fair will be a good one for people to attend.
“On Thursday, it’s free admission to the fair. Once you’re in, you’re in. And so there is free carnival rides hosted by the Fair Board, there is free grandstand events. So Thursday would be a great day. We are doing a lot of check ins that day, so a lot of animals will be coming in.”
Also going on tomorrow are weigh ins for livestock with swine weigh in from 11am to 1pm, sheep and goat weigh in from 1-3pm, beef weigh in from 1-3pm and junior cattle feeders weigh in from 3-5pm. Poultry and rabbit check in will be from 10am to 3pm, and horse check in will be from 3-4pm. Blum mentions that there will be a livestock judging contest starting at 6pm, an RC car demonstration and the Bill Riley Talent Show both at 7pm.
