The Greene County School District has a few overall focal points setup for this year.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says each building in the district is using the same professional development program of having highly reliable schools, while incorporating the district’s four strategic priorities. Those priorities include academic excellence, recruiting and retaining quality staff, being fiscally responsible and having quality resource management; and continuing to provide excellent relationships with community members.

Abbotts points out another focal point is creating and maintaining parental engagement with their child and the school. He describes one way to do that is by doing the community surveys.

“Giving us the feedback that we need to get better. We think that we have some pretty darn good ideas and we’ve definitely been making some really great strides over the past couple of years. But we also want to hear from other people who may have better ideas. And may have solid constructive feedback that can help us continue to get better.”

Abbotts also encourages parents and guardians to come to their child or children’s recognition ceremonies or performances, have students attend school regularly, have open communication with teachers, and participate in parent initiatives.
