The Perry swimming team will have their first meet of the season next week against Algona on Thursday, August 29. The swimming season is different than most sports. The Jayettes don’t belong to a conference or district. One opponent even appears on the schedule 5 times. “We see Algona quite a bit. They don’t have the luxury of having to be able to have home meets so much in their pool so you’ll see those on our schedule several times and it’s almost like a second family when Algona comes to town we’re rivals but we have a lot of fun.”
Swimming is also not divided by enrollment once postseason play begins. The Jayettes will have numerous meets where they will go up against larger schools to see how they match up around the state. “Fort Dodge, they have a great pool and a great program and they’re a great team to swim against as well and for the girls to see what kind of challenges are out there we do have the Ames Invite. We’re the smallest school at the Ames invite but that provides the girls a level of competition that they probably aren’t going to see in our regular season meets that helps prepare them for regional competition.”
Perry swims all home meets at the McCreery Center.
