Senior Noah Hinote has qualifying for a third State Cross-Country Meet among his goals in his final season running for the Rams. A qualifier in Class 2A as a sophomore and 3A last year, Greene County has dropped back down to 2A, the preliminary enrollment numbers show.
About a dozen boys are out for the sport, while the girls start with seven participants. Greene County has been able to field both a varsity and JV squad on the boys’ side, but having seven girls run and counting the best five scores has been an issue for the Rams. Head coach Jeff Lamoureux is hopeful injuries and other factors don’t limit the Rams in their efforts to at least field varsity girls and boys teams.
The season is set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Gowrie at a coed meet hosted by Southeast Valley.
