New Dallas County Conservation Director Curt Cable reflects on the transition, while crediting his predecessor.

Cable tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he began working with the conservation board in 2016 as a Trails Manager, then was promoted to Deputy Director in 2020. Former Director Mike Wallace recently retired on July 31st, and Cable recalls that he was a great person to learn from.

“Very professional with how he went about his day, and I was able to learn quite a bit under him from the budget to how to handle personnel issues. He was a great mentor to me.

Wallace was the Dallas County Conservation Director for 22 years, and worked 43 years full time in Iowa’s county conservation board system. Cable officially started as the director on August 1st, 2024.
