The Greene County High School Principal is excited to get the new school year underway.

Principal Karen Shannon says last year great strides were made in terms of developing strong relationships with staff, students, and families, while also seeing some improvement with academics. One important aspect that Shannon says is going to be emphasized is increasing student attendance.

“We have a group (of) our staff that’s going to be focused just on attendance and student engagement for this ‘24-’25 (school) year. We’re going to work really hard at getting families in the building more and making sure there is good communication between the school and home, not just from the (main) office but from teachers. It’s really important for families to feel like they’re a part of their child’s education at the high school level as well.”    

Shannon reminds everyone that the schedule is changing this year from trimesters to semesters.

“We’re going from a six period day to an eight period day and from 67 minutes a period to just 44 (minutes). Students will need to be engaged, they’re going to be focused, and that’s going to be a shift, and it’s a welcomed shift. I mean a lot of students have said, when I surveyed them, is too long of class periods, too long of school day, all of this. So I think that’s going to be a good change.:     

Shannon welcomes eight new staff and support staff hires for this year at the high school. The first day of school is this Friday. The list of the new hires can be found below.
