Greene County Activities Director Dave Wright talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the changes of seasons for boys high school golf in Iowa starting in 2025. One year from now all classes of Iowa high school boys’ golf will play in the Fall. Currently, only the largest of the four classes play Fall golf.
“I don’t know if it will be good or bad to be honest with you, but it’s definitely going to be a change. When you look at it for a dual sport athlete dueling up with football becomes a little bit different than dueling with track, and maybe even soccer, because of the times of practices and things like that.”
The A.D. added from a practical standout it makes sense with generally better weather from mid-August to mid-October as opposed to early April to mid-May. Plus, many high school golfers play a lot in the Summer months, so they generally aren’t picking up a club for the first time in many months. He did say he’s reserving judgement for now and says “To be determined whether it’s a good thing or not.”
Girls’ tennis will be a Fall sport starting in 2025 instead of Spring, but Greene County does not offer tennis as a high school sport.
