The grand opening for two iconic trails in the state of Iowa is happening today.

The Raccoon River Valley Trail and the High Trestle Trail are combining together, as a bike ride and ribbon cutting are set to take place. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti comments that the connector has been worked on for the past 10 years, and it’s surreal that the project will be finalized today.

“There’s been a lot of anticipation with this. There’s been sections of the route of the trail finished over the years, but this is officially completed to make it all the way through to Ankeny to pass the High Trestle Trail.”

Pasutti notes that the festivities will start at 11am as riders will gather at the Big Bike at Caboose Park in Perry for a bike ride hosted by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. She describes that the ride will travel from Perry to Woodward, then go to Bouton. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1pm on the Bouton Trailhead, 110 E. 1st. The public is invited to attend as a live band, food, and water will be provided. For more information, contact the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association at (515)-465-3577.
