Greene County continues to perform well at the Iowa State Fair through Friday morning.
According to the Iowa State Fair results, Greene County FFA was second place overall with the Team Equestrian Award, led by Madison Higgins who had three champion designations for horse. The Greene County FFA Chapter reported Kayla Frederickson earned the Top Showman Award and a second and third place finishes in her class for beef.
Greene County 4-H’ers saw in the lamb contest, Breanna Pope was a champion and had a first and third place finishes, along with Emmalin Wright had two second places, Tyler Pope received a purple ribbon and there were 23 blue ribbons given out for lamb. According to Greene County ISU Extension, Cody Stephenson had one grand champion and three reserve champions for poultry.
Additionally, Aiden Anderson of Paton won the youth division for Ag and Horticulture Crop: Weed Identification.
There was also a Century and Heritage Farm designations this year for Greene County. The Godfrey Farm in Franklin Township is a Century Farm. This is for families who have owned the same farmland for at least 100 years. Godfrey Farm was purchased in 1924 with 120 acres and is currently owned by Marty Godfrey, Carol Godfrey-Davis and Carla Godfrey-Hilgenberg. The Smith Family Farm in Paton Township is a Heritage Farm. A Heritage Farm is for families that owned the same farmland for at least 150 years. The 120 acres were purchased in 1868 and are currently owned by Larry H Smith and Leroy Harrison.
