All three school buildings in the Greene County School District are having their respective open houses this coming Tuesday, ahead of the first day of school.

The open house for the high school is 4-7pm and Principal Karen Shannon encourages all students and parents to attend. She says people can get help with registering and navigating Infinite Campus and Bound, along with seeing what student clubs and organizations are available, open campus application forms for seniors and tour the building. She explains that having parent-involvement is a main focus for a high school student’s academic success.

“We need their support. It helps with attendance, it helps with academics, and it helps with students’ even their social-emotional health. I mean knowing that their school, and their family, and their teacher, and all of the people are on the same page. I mean it just helps for a better and more successful school year.”

Shannon adds that the first 300 people that come to the open house will receive a free prize. There is also a freshmen and new student orientation at 6pm in the auditorium.

The middle school open house is also from 4-7pm. Principal Cara Osbourne invites all 5th-8th grade families to attend, get their child’s class schedule, walk the building, drop off school supplies and meet their teachers, who will all be in one location. There will also be a fifth grade and new student orientation in the middle school auditorium at 5:30pm.

Finally, Elementary Principal Audrey Hinote says their open house is from noon-7:30pm for mini conferences. Families must register for a 15 minute time slot to meet their child’s teacher, drop off school supplies and tour the building. She adds the three year old preschool open house will take place at The Children’s Center from 6:30-7:30pm.

The first day of the 2024-25 school year for students is Friday, August 23rd.
