The Greene County Development Corporation Board met Tuesday in regular session.

The GCDC Board heard an update from the new Multicultural Family Resource Center Director Sarah Huddleston. She said she worked for three days helping families register for school, as well as met with city councils in the county and businesses. She mentioned that she completed translating brochures for newcomers to the city of Jefferson into Spanish. She added a Java and Juice with Jefferson Matters on September 13th for an opportunity for the public to meet her. 

GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton reported that there is still interest from a possible tenant for the former Forge building, along with planning tours with some of the manufacturers for Manufacturer’s Day on October 4th and the Annual Event for GCDC is scheduled for September 30th at the Greene Room Events Center at Wild Rose in Jefferson.

Anne McMahon with Iowa Economic Development Authority was introduced. She is with the IEDA’s Iowa Business Development and works to expand existing industries in west and northwest Iowa, as well as with connecting quality jobs. She talked about restructuring incentives for expansion, recruitment and retention for employers. Her goal was to meet all entities that are involved in economic development.

A community update came from Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield who reported about 30 walk-in mammograms have been done since February with the Mammo Mondays program. He said there were 101 free physicals done for students with Greene County Family Medicine Clinic in July. Butterfield also mentioned looking for a way to bring back oncology services and reminded everyone that free women’s health screenings are happening now through September 13th. 

ISU Extension Regional Director Lori Mannel said there were nine candidates for the Greene County Director position and there was a verbal offer made to a potential hire. Grand Junction resident and Library Director Alan Robinson said that during the Farm Progress show in Boone County, there will be a free concert by Channel Seed with the country band Blackhawk to perform on August 28th. Finally, Region XII Council of Governments Executive Director Rick Hunsaker gave updates of the two home projects they are doing in Jefferson and Scranton and that they are moving along.
