Drier conditions mixed with cooler temperatures are allowing crops to flourish in the latest report.
According to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture that was released this past Monday, topsoil moisture conditions for the state of Iowa rates at three percent very short, 20 percent short, 72 percent adequate and five percent surplus. The report claims that 69 percent of corn is at the dough stage or beyond, which is one day behind last year and two days ahead of the five-year average.
Corn was rated 77 percent good to excellent with 94 percent of soybeans blooming, equal to the five year average. The USDA announces that the recent dry conditions and cooler temperatures led to 6.4 days suitable for field work for farmers.
