It’s only been a few days into the 2024 Iowa State Fair, and several individuals from Greene County have received high marks.
Greene County 4-H’er Paisley Allen received special recognition for her innovative design fashion entry, as one of 149 participants, earning a $250 scholarship from Des Moines Area Community College Fashion or Interior Design Program.
Additionally, several 4-H horse shows have taken place at the state fair. Braylee Cose came away with five champions, Treynor Cose had two champions, while Jaelynn Hedges and Sandra Dawson were each named a champion.
As for the open entries, Leah Thompson from Jefferson was second for the adult drawing category and Katrina and Natalie Heupel brought home third place in the 18 and over most look alike contest. Natalie talks about how the experience was as the 19 year old twins competed against several other identical twins.
“It was scary with the 18 and older. You know, you think as they get older they don’t look as much alike, but it was pretty tough. We read our names off second and I think we sealed the deal with, we said our names were ‘Nat’ and ‘Kat,’ they (the judges) liked that. I saw the judges looking at us for a while during that group, so I think I had a good feeling that we were going to get a good placement.”
Natalie is attending the University of Northern Iowa for sports administration and Katrina is at Iowa State University for event management.
