The Jefferson Public Library reached out to the youngest children in the area and did a Summer Reading Program.

Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says there was a program for newborns to pre-kindergarten and she describes what she liked the best about their Summer Reading Program.

“They’re one of my favorite age groups. If I’m having a really bad day, nothing makes me happier than being around my toddlers. Because they’re just happy to be here. Everything is new to them, everything is exciting to them, and half the new and exciting stuff is going to go into their mouth.”

Mount talks about making a minor change to when Toddler Story Time happened, propelling all the other youth Summer Reading Programs to success.

“It started sort of coming to me when we had our Spring Toddler Story Times earlier this year. They’ve typically been on Wednesdays and we decided to make the jump to Mondays, since there’s no pre-k on Mondays. We started getting more folks in, we started getting more people in consistently, so then we went, ‘Oh you know what would be nice? If we start the Summer Reading Program week the littles, and as we work our way up we get to the older kids.”

Mount thanks all of the families that participated in the newborn to pre-kindergarten Summer Reading Program and all of the sponsors that made all of the programs free for the youth.
