Individuals from Guthrie County participated in the Static Events Day in July, with some qualifying for the Iowa State Fair.
4-H member Carrie Downing was able to bring a few projects. She shares with Raccoon Valley Radio why she wanted to join 4-H and participate in the different events that they have.
“They were a lot of projects that either my family really liked, or things that I can put around my house that feel more like home.”
4-H member Reagan Grow talks about why she submitted her quilt project.
“I kind of did it for a fun project with my grandma over the summer, and I wanted to learn how to sew.”
4-H member Laurin Davis enjoys baking desserts, and wanted to do a project related to that. She explains her poster comparing duck and chicken eggs.
“I wanted to find out what was different between duck and chicken eggs in baking specifically. And the duck eggs have a lot more protein and different proteins in them than the chicken eggs, which makes a denser cupcake than the chicken eggs.”
4-H member Julianna Schroeder had several projects she did as well, as she describes what she did with woodworking.
“So the book tree has a flat bottom. A piece that goes out from it diagonally. Then it just keeps going up for about three more levels. And then you can put books in it and it’s like, sideways.”
All four of these Guthrie County 4-H’ers were able to take an exhibit to the Iowa State Fair, which started August 8th.
