2024 Greene County High School graduate Jack Hansen tried walking onto the U. of Nebraska football team earlier this Summer. He’s been enrolled at the Lincoln campus for some time, so he thought he’d give it a try. Although he did not receive an invitation, he enjoyed the experience and talked about it with Raccoon Valley Radio.

The Cornhuskers annually hold tryouts for players who are not on scholarship and were not invited to walk onto the team. The open tryout was held inside the new football facility, which Hansen said was very impressive. “After drills and running routes with about 40 guys there, six or seven of us were given a tour of the weight room and facilities. It was really impressive and I’m glad I did it.”

Hansen describes himself as not very big and not very fast, but he earned Class 2A All-State football honors as a receiver in 2023 and set the program’s single game record for receiving yards with 328 in a loss to Roland-Story in week five.
