A popular summer event is approaching on Saturday in the City of Adel.
The 45th annual Sweet Corn Festival will be taking over Adel as many people will be in town attending the large get-together. Adel Partners Chamber Director Deb Bengston tells Raccoon Valley Radio about some programs taking place on Friday.
“We start at 4:30 in the afternoon shucking our seven ton of corn, and we also have a princess contest going on at 6:30(pm).”
The main day of events kick off on Saturday with the start of the Sweet Corn Festival 5K Run/Walk at 7:30am followed by the parade at 9:30am, which Bengston notes is the largest within Dallas County. Bengston highlights the biggest attraction is the free sweet corn, and pinpoints the aspect she loves the most of it all.
“Seeing the kids enjoy it so much. They love the parade, they love the free sweet corn, they love the kids games. We invite the kids to come into the street party and listen to the music. They come and dance and have a great time at the street party, so it has to be the kids’ enjoyment.”
Bengston comments that Burning Sensations will be performing at the street party this year. In addition, there’s a bags tournament, volleyball tournament, car show, and more. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will make an appearance Saturday from 8am-4pm. All the information is available by clicking here.
