Three recent Greene County High School graduates received an additional scholarship from two all female organizations.

The PEO Chapter CZ and MY awarded three Class of 2024 graduates including Olivia Hoyt, Georgia Osterson and Ellie Knippers each a $1,800 scholarship from the Hazel Brown Zachar PEO scholarships. The Hazel Brown Zachar PEO Scholarship started 30 years ago when 1939 Jefferson High School graduate Hazel Brown was the valedictorian of her class and went on to have a distinguished nursing and military career.

Brown wanted to start the scholarship as a way to recognize the top female students and ensure that they had assistance with college costs, after they had high academic achievements. Today the Hazel Brown Zachar Endowment Fund supports the scholarships through the PEO International Foundation. P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women are celebrated for their  advancement and educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
