Logan and Aiden Marshall

Two Greene County brothers are taking their static exhibits to this year’s Iowa State Fair.

Logan Marshall is going into seventh grade, has been in 4-H for three years and is part of the Hardin Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. He describes his Science, Engineering and Technology static exhibit that took him one week to complete and qualified from the Greene County Fair and is advancing to the Iowa State Fair.

“So I made a cow-shaped flower pot that was based off my cow that I showed this year (at the county fair). We nailed it the first time but we had to re-do the paint because some spots we forgot to get it, so we go over them.”

Marshall is hoping to do better than last year when his cow string art received a red ribbon at the state fair.

Logan’s younger brother Aiden is going to be a sixth grader and has been in 4-H for two years. He is taking an oxbow restoration model in the ag and natural resources category that qualified for the state fair. He explains what his static exhibit looks like that took him one month to build and was inspired by the same subject that is on his family’s farm.

“It’s basically a U-shape that’s really close to the river but it’s not connected. For the bottom (of the model) I used foam, and then I cut out the river and the oxbow, I put fake grass on it, filled it with fake water, and then put fake trees and plants on it.”

Logan was excited to be a first time state fair qualifier and is hoping for at least a blue ribbon. The 2024 Iowa State Fair is August 8th-18th.
