Multiple rounds of thunderstorms pelted the Raccoon Valley Radio area overnight and Tuesday morning.

The first set of severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service just after 1am until 3am for most of Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties. Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright reported strong winds and small tree branches were down, along with outdoor furniture was blown around in Guthrie Center, but no property damage or injuries were reported. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said there was 60 miles per hour winds and heavy rainfall across the county during the four severe thunderstorm warnings.

Then the second set of severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service starting at 8:25am for Greene and Guthrie Counties, along with northwestern Dallas County. The final warning the National Weather Service issued lasted until 10:15am for southern Guthrie County and southwestern Dallas County. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of those storms.

Sheriff Williams reported 50 mph winds, with heavy rainfall and pea to dime size hail in the Scranton area, but no reports of property damage or injuries. A Minburn weather spotter noted over 55 mph winds and the Dallas Center Fire Department reported a town-wide power outage at 9:15am, along with pea size hail in Adel. There were no immediate reports of property damage or injuries. A Scranton area listener had over 1.4 inches of rainfall from the two morning severe thunderstorms.

There were four Raccoon Valley Radio staff, Weatherology Meteorologists, the Greene and Guthrie County Sheriff’s Offices, Dallas Center Fire Department, Dallas County Emergency Management and several listeners participated in the live coverage with the Severe Weather Action Team.
