A member of the Perry City Council has been nominated for a seat in the Iowa House District.
A press release states that Councilman Joe Shelly is a candidate for Iowa House District 47. During a district nominating convention on July 18th, Shelly was chosen to be a democratic representative. According to the press release, Shelly is a semi-retired union pipefitter and currently serves on the Perry City Council as well as the Dallas County Hospital Board of Trustees.
For his campaign, Shelly’s focus is on restoring the community following the January 4th shooting that occurred at Perry High School and the closure of the Tyson Foods Pork Plant this year. Shelly is set to face off against Republican State Representative Carter Nordman in the general election on November 5th.
