The Jefferson Police Department is currently investigating a theft case through the help of several area businesses.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says on July 16th, Tri-County Lumber reported at least 150 bundles of shingles were missing. Officer Mark Wolterman tells Raccoon Valley Radio after his initial evidence collecting at the scene of Tri-County, he determined that the alleged truck that was used went past Fairview Veterinary Clinic.
From there, Wolterman points out he used surveillance footage from Fairview Veterinary Clinic, Greene County Agronomy Services, Super 8 Hotel, Sparky’s One Stop Gas Station and Wild Rose Casino to piece together the path that the truck took, to identifying the year/make/model and color of the truck, and eventually finding two individuals that were believed to be involved.
Wolterman notes that all of the evidence led to a search warrant that was executed on July 20th of two locations in Fort Dodge. Items that were recovered included footwear that was believed to have been used in the incident, the 2010 GMC quad-cab blue truck that was towed and is in the impound lot, along with two cell phones.
Clouse is appreciative for the area businesses helping with their investigation by allowing them access to their security camera footage.
“Every business in this area that had cameras took their own time and resources to scrub their camera footage for us, which ultimately identified the vehicle that we were looking for (and) timeline. And I just want to thank the businesses, not just in the north part of town, but in this event the north businesses, thank them for their cooperative and dedication to the other businesses and our department.”
This case remains under investigation. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
