The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team competed hard in the Class 4A Championship game, but couldn’t skate past Carlisle late Thursday night as they lost 7-6.

The Tigers and Wildcats didn’t begin the game until approximately 8:30pm, due to the Class 5A Championship game running a little long. Carlisle scored first in the second inning thanks to a single from Logan Brown to put the Wildcats up 1-0. ADM would respond heavily with bringing three runs across in the bottom of the second, then adding two more in the third for a 5-1 advantage. Carlisle refused to go away as in the bottom of the fourth inning, three runs were brought in with a two-run RBI from Kaliyah Brown as the Wildcats trailed 5-4.

The top of the fifth inning saw Senior Ally Nolte blast a two-run homer down the left side to rally Carlisle to a 6-5 lead. The Tiger’s Senior Cameran Smith came in to tie the game 6-6. The Wildcats got the deciding run of the game with Evan Johnson-Miers coming home thanks to an RBI Single from Addy Eginore to capture the 7-6 lead. ADM had one final opportunity in the bottom of the seventh after C. Smith struck out, Macy Person found her way to first, followed by another single from Lauren Hagedorn to put two on base for the Tigers before Senior Kaylee Smith blasted one deep to left but was caught for two outs. Madi James was ADM’s last hope as she struck out, with the immediate emotion overcoming her.

Person finished the contest going 3-3 with three singles, Hagedorn was 3-4 with a single and two RBI’s, and C. Smith was 2-4 with a pair of singles. Scoring for ADM include C. Smith, Person, James, E. Smith, Aubrey Noring, and Lauryn Troster.

Carlisle used three different pitchers of Addy Abel who went 4.3 innings pitched, allowed two hits, one run, and tallied three strikeouts. Mallie Stoner pitched two innings, allowed two hits, and three runs, while Logan Brown went one inning, allowed two hits, and two runs. The Tiger’s Hagedorn pitched all seven innings, allowed 11 hits, seven runs, walked one batter, and struck out six.

ADM should be proud of their efforts as they played in their first state championship game and is looking to build off this incredible year. The Wildcats are the 2024 Class 4A Champions (first time since 2018-2019 season) to complete the year at 37-8, while the Tigers conclude the season 31-10. ADM graduates five seniors of Aubrey Winter, Kaylee Smith, Olivia Wyant, Aleah Johnson, and Cameran Smith.
