In a continuing effort to support students’ mental health, the Greene County School District has invested in a new program.
Superintendent Brett Abbotts says Director of Counseling Services Kyle Kinne found a goldmine of a program with the Employee and Family Resources (EFR). He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the program costs $4,000 and allows any student that attends the Greene County School District and their families up to six paid for telehealth sessions with licensed mental health counselors. Abbotts points out this will be in addition to Classroom Clinic that students can access via telehealth with a referral on Tuesday afternoons.
“But this is just one more layer for us. When we think about those wrap around services for our kids, we have a lot of kids in counseling, we have a lot of kids needing additional supports. And it’s not just for kids either again, it’s for their families too. It’ll be at no cost to them, it’s something that the school district’s already paid for.”
Abbotts believes this new program is a great one to include for the upcoming school year.
“You know a comment that I made at the board table there was even if this helps one family and supports one family, it’s completely and totally worth it.”
Abbotts adds that students do not need a referral in order to use the program.
