Greene County junior Gavyn Winters was named to the second All-Conference baseball team in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Junior Crew Conner and freshman Jaron Jacobs were named to the Honorable Mention list. The Rams finished in last place in the eight team league with a 1-11 record and they were 2-20 overall. No Greene County players were named to the All-Conference first team.

Winters, a left-handed batter and thrower, manned centerfield for the Rams and he also pitched. He was named to the second unit as a Utility player. He batted .143 four runs batted in and two runs scored. Winters was recognized primarily for the defensive ability, according to head coach Kyle Stalder.

Conner batted .345 this season, which led the team and was a big improvement over 2023. The left-handed batter had four doubles, more than half of the seven extra base hits the team mustered in 22 games. His batting average was more than 50 points higher than the Greene County team average. Conner also pitched for the Rams.

Jacobs did yeoman’s duty as a catcher despite not being very tall or weighing a lot over 100 lbs. He had a .235 average at the plate with two RBI and four runs scored. Jacobs threw out eight would-be base stealers and had just two errors in 124 chances.

Coach Kyle Stalder’s team had no seniors on it, but the junior class held down six starting positions in many games. Sophomores and freshmen rounded out the lineup.
