The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team stayed patient as they scored late against Fort Dodge to advance to the second round in the Class 4A State Tournament.

The Tigers and the Dodgers were scoreless for much of the game, but both teams had opportunities to score. For ADM, they stranded three runners on the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, while Fort Dodge left bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers got a leadoff double from Sophomore Lauren Hagedorn (Lauryn Troster came in to courtesy run). A sacrifice bunt from Kaylee Smith led Troster to third, then Madi James was hit by pitch to put runners on the corners. Junior Ellis Smith was able to pick up a RBI Single to score Troster for the first run of the game.

A single from Senior Olivia Wyant sent James home after she advanced to second to give ADM the 2-0 lead in the sixth. Junior Aniston Tollari hit a ball hard to left which was believed to be fair but was called back after further speculation as the Tigers almost extended their lead 4-0. Despite that, ADM got the final three outs in the top of the seventh to win the game.

Losing pitcher was Fort Dodge’s Lucy Porter who went six innings, allowed seven hits, two runs, and struck out four. The Tigers’ Hagedorn pitched seven innings, allowed three runs, walked two batters, and had four strikeouts.

Fort Dodge finishes the season 30-13 and graduate two seniors of Macy Brown and Mackenzie McIIrath. ADM improves to 30-9 and will now take on Raccoon River Conference opponent North Polk tomorrow at 12:45pm at the Harlan Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. The game will be broadcast on K107.9 KKRF beginning at 12:30pm.
