Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger runs most of the programs that Stuart Police Department Community Programs do, including the summer youth programs.
Guisinger mentions that it’s a fun time for the children involved, because they get to do some interesting and entertaining things. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she also enjoys being able to do the programs, and why it’s a good time for her and some of the others that help her.
“I don’t talk about being a police officer, but they also know there’s a lot of police officers here with us, you know. I’m not the only one who goes to these camps. So it’s kind of humanizing our side of the job too, where they see us, you know. (They’re like) ‘oh, you’re not wearing your uniform today,’ and ‘you’re just hanging out with us, and you’re taking pictures of me catching a fish,’ and ‘you’re gonna go around the zoo with me and we’re going to look at stuff together,’ or ‘oh, you’re going to hike with me on the camp.’”
Guisinger mentions that no matter what they are doing for the program, the best part is just being able to do the activities together, and hang out together as well. With the youth programs finished for the summer, the last activity Guisinger has planned before school is the National Night Out, which will be August 6th.
