A member of the Perry Police Department recently took part in a law enforcement bike ride in Minnesota.
Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn rode in the Tour De Shield616 Minnesota Ride with officers from the northern state to raise awareness and money for rifle rated armor to help police departments. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the benefits it will bring to the unit within Perry.
“Most departments, including the Perry Police Department, issue all of our officers with ballistic vests, which mainly help prevent any type of handgun penetration. If they have that vest, it protects them in that way. Fortunately, we will be getting one of those vests for each one of our officers, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.”
Vaughn comments that he is open to participating in it a second time, but is satisfied with the one experience.
“There is that possibility that I might do it again, but it maybe one and done kind of things. It was fun, I really did enjoy it. There was a lot of camaraderie with fellow first responders. Most of the people there were from Minnesota.”
The ride took place over the course of four days, traveling from Winona, MN to Fargo, North Dakota accumulating close to 500 miles.
