Following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13th, US Senator Chuck Grassley is sharing his comments.
Senator Grassley recalls when he was watching the live coverage of the rally and was unsure what was happening the moment the bullet grazed Trump’s ear, but looking back believes that Trump made the right movement at the right time is the reason why he is alive today. He comments on what Congress is currently doing following the incident.
“My investigative team is already asking questions of the FBI, and the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security, and Justice Department. And then you’ve heard of several other branches of the Congress and committees in Congress want to investigate as well, including the possible setting up of a select committee to do it.”
Grassley’s message to Iowans is to tone down the rhetoric that has been happening in the political environment and look at the bigger picture.
“We have to be more civil towards each other. Anything that encourages these shootings like we’re having against political people or even against people that aren’t political has to stop and the extent of which the division within our society and the words that support that division have to be toned down tremendously.”
While Grassley has concerns of political candidates safety and security on the campaign trail and the agencies in charge of providing that security, he is also praying for the families of those individuals who were injured and killed at the rally on July 13th.
