The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office wants county residents to be aware of a recent scam that has been reported.
Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that this scam comes in the form of a text appearing to be from the United States Postal Service and gives a link to make sure that shipping information is correct for a package. It has been reported that people that click the link lose money or give out their personal data. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that scams are becoming more technological and sophisticated.
“You need to be careful when you get a request like that and you’re not aware of a package. Or even if you think there’s a package, you still need to be careful. And if you have any questions, call the Sheriff’s Office with your concerns. There’s all kinds of scams out there now. You have to be careful at all times who you’re talking to, what kind of information you give out.”
Arganbright mentions that unfortunately, with how many scams there are out there, many residents have fallen victim to them. He adds that being careful and asking questions if something looks fishy is important, as once information or money has been taken it can be extremely difficult to recover.
