The public is invited to one of the smallest towns in Greene County for some big entertainment on Saturday.
Rippey Fun Day Co-Organizer Chelsi Lawrence tells Raccoon Valley Radio the parade begins the festivities, with lineup and check-ins at 9am at the fire station and the parade will start at 10am. She says the route goes to Sparky’s One Stop Gas Station near Iowa Highway 144, then right to Lovejoy, and another right to the Greene County Secondary Roads shed. Following the parade is three-on-three basketball and pickleball tournaments at 11am, along with vendors and the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will be grilling and serving a meal on Main Street.
Lawrence points out in the afternoon from 1-4pm near the fire station is a car, truck, tractor, semi and motorcycle show with a $20 entry fee and prizes will be awarded. Also at 1pm, Lawrence says a separate truck show is also happening with high school students organizing it and trophies will be awarded as well.
Then at 2pm will be the 3K Color Run/Walk starting at the city park with a $5 per person registration fee or $25 for a family. Lawrence explains what participants will experience along the route.
“Throughout the stops, there’ll be different stops of getting color throwed on you (with) water. We’re going to hand out a couple of goodies and at the end there’ll be some goodies. So I’m hoping for a good turnout.”
A petting zoo will be from 3-7pm and there will be lawn games taking place from 11am-6pm, both by the basketball courts, along with a meal served at the First United Methodist Church from 4:30-6:30pm. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, desserts, pie and homemade ice cream. Additionally, Lawrence notes that there is going to be a beer tent and raffles with two custom painted tool boxes by Colby Baugh, with tickets for $10 and the beer tent will be in front of the library.
Then from 6-7pm the local Town and Country Band will perform near Walt Anderson Field where a baseball game will start at 7:30pm, followed by fireworks at 9:30pm, and a street dance with live musical entertainment from 10pm-midnight.
