Courtney Wojtowicz, who was recently named the 2024 Dallas County Fair Queen, speaks on the memorable occasion.

Wojtowicz sat in anticipation on Friday as Raccoon Valley Radio’s Shawn Kenney introduced all five candidates running for fair queen. New this year was the runner-up being named the Dallas County Fair Princess, which went to Maitlyn Bucklin-Pagano. Wojtowicz’s name was called following the announcement of Dallas County Fair Queen.

“I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out, but I also just love that I get the opportunity to share my story with others.”

Wojtowicz’s purpose for wanting to represent Dallas County is to promote disability awareness as she describes how she grew up in a special education program, and wants the subject to be talked about more. Wojtowicz is grateful for the time spent with the other candidates getting to know each other better.

“I definitely gained a lot of friendships. We got to do a lot of different activities together from auctioning off pies to doing the mutton busting, and it’s really cool because I did not know any of the girls coming into it and I definitely gained friendships throughout the entire county fair. And not only with the people that I was running with, but just the other people around the fair. They’re so kind to everyone and you get to have conversations with people you wouldn’t normally get to.”

Wojtowicz adds that she is looking forward to meeting other county queens at the Iowa State Fair in August while hoping to bring some traditions from Dallas County.
