There are a series of art-related workshops coming up for area youth at the Greene County Community Center.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department Assistant Director Nathan Kral says Jolene Peters, owner of Art on the Fly, is hosting four art opportunities for any ages six and up, starting later this week. On Thursday will be creating a geometric art on a canvas and Friday is constructing a wood and stick structure. Then next Monday is printmaking techniques with different textures on tools and using lots of different inks and paint to make art on paper. Finally, next Tuesday is a sensory class with neurographic art that promotes relaxation and brain health.

Kral talks about why he wanted to include art as part of the summer programming.

“I like to do different things that are not just sports-related. So it’s great to have Jolene here (and) she’s willing to do these classes here (at the community center). It’s been a great partnership and she gets a lot of people interested in them and they make great work.”

The classes will be from 1-3pm and the cost is $30 for community center members and $35 for non-members. Checks are to be made to the City of Jefferson. Contact the community center at 515-386-2134 or stop by to sign up.
