A Des Moines man was charged with a felony and misdemeanors in Greene County following a chase last weekend.

According to court documents, 45-year-old Mark Dugan II of Des Moines allegedly refused to stop his vehicle at 3:29pm on Sunday, July 7th when a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy activated the emergency lights on the patrol vehicle because Dugan was carelessly driving and failed to maintain control. The chase started in the Parkland Avenue area and ended in Dallas County at 125th Street and D Avenue when the deputy’s vehicle made contact with Dugan’s vehicle, forcing it to skid to a stop. Dugan was then arrested. 

Court documents show that during the chase, the deputy saw Dugan throw a baggie out of his vehicle near Sherwood Avenue and 330th Street that contained suspected methamphetamine. After Dugan was arrested he admitted to using the drug earlier that day. Dugan also consented to a field sobriety and breath tests, which he failed. Dugan was transported to Greene County Medical Center to be examined for injuries. 

Court documents show he was later released and Dugan was booked into the Greene County Jail with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance violation, two aggravated misdemeanors for his second or subsequent violation for eluding and his second OWI, as well as a serious misdemeanor for a no contact violation, and several traffic citations including, failure to obey a stop sign, among others.
